Winning The Fight Against Time

Posted on September 17, 2015 by

If you are blessed and fortunate enough to have lived on this planet for a while, there eventually comes a time when you start to notice the same thing that countless ancestors of ours have noticed over the eons… The undeniable fact that, sorry! You’re getting old.

The first signs of this sad truth probably reveal themselves to you in a very subtle fashion… An extra ache when you wake up in the morning; Recuperating from injuries takes longer than it used to; Or it could be a grey hair or an extra wrinkle in your smile. As my (older) brother always likes to tell me, “getting old is not for the faint of heart.”

Such subtle signs are a painful reminder of our own mortality. They can either make you sad or remind you that you may only have a certain amount of time left on this spinning blue rock we call home.

If you like movies, you know you’re getting old when the actors you grew up watching & admiring start showing their age… or die. (Even though Tom Cruise & Keanu Reeves are immortal. They never age!)

If you’ve raised children and they have children of their own, that’s a definite sign, too.

And if you’re like me and don’t believe that the person in the pictures that were taken of you ARE you, that’s not just a sign, it’s a slap in the face of your reality! Ouch!

When we’re young, we like to think that we’ll never get old. Shoot, we’ll live forever, right?! Those “old people” just don’t get it…Until we become “those old people” that we used to make fun of!

Of course, we create our own realities. Age is only a number. We’re only as old as we feel… Except on those days when we DO ‘feel our age.’

But there are ways we can definitely slow down the aging hands of time. Like taking better care of ourselves. Eating right. Exercising more in ways that make us younger & stronger. And doing (healthy) things that we love to do and make us laugh and smile (No, Botox injections don’t count). Because at the end of the day, we can only deny the undeniable truth of time for so long. We’re only human, after all, and it WILL eventually catch up with us, whether we like it or not (NOT!).

So stay young as long as you can. Laugh, love, dance, play, sing, and be happy as much as possible. Oh, and try to make those around you do the same, because after you’re gone, some of those people will still be here, and guess what? They’re going to remember you the way you were, and how you made THEM feel!

If you’re a workaholic working a JOB, stop that! What the hell do you think you’re doing? Do you honestly think that those people that you work with actually give a crap about you, your family, your dreams & goals, or even your LIFE? If you DO think that, you’re fooling yourself. Because as soon as you’re gone, how quickly do you think they’ll simply find another sucker to replace you so that they can use their valuable time and life-force? Snap! That’s how fast!

The trick to balancing life, money, and work is to make sure that you have your life goals in line with what you’re doing for a living. Because if you’re miserable at your job, you should get out and find something that makes you feel better, makes you a boatload of money, AND delivers a lot of value for as many people as possible. That’s the real way to get rich. Haven’t you heard?

If you’re a workaholic building your own business, awesome! But guess what? It shouldn’t be all you. There are literally billions of people out there that you can get to do a good chunk of the work FOR you. All you have to do is find & train them, then hold them accountable for getting the work done to your satisfaction. Yeah, you still get to make a ton of money. Secret: You’ll probably make MORE this way, because it frees you up from doing all the crap that’s been holding you back. And you can play more golf in your newly-found free time. Don’t like golf? Cool. Do whatever else you like!

My hope for you is that you’re happy. And that you stay that way.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with working as a Wal-Mart greeter when you’re 75, just as long as that’s what YOU WANT to do, not because you have to do it in order to get by.

As far as we know, we only have one life to live as we fly through space on this beautiful rock, so get out there and start living it right…NOW!

Oh, and there really IS no way to ‘WIN the Fight Against Time.’ You’ve just got to do the best you can to make it work FOR you rather than against you…so stay away from the Botox!!

Until Next Time,
