Stop Wasting Time: Timyo App Review

Posted on February 9, 2017 by

“If time be of all things the most precious, wasting time must be the greatest prodigality.” ~ Benjamin Franklin

I didn’t think Timyo was going to be a game changer for me. I already felt like I had great management tools using Gmail in the first place. A friend recommended that I check out this new app so I tinkered with it for a while. It is an email inbox management system that works best with Gmail, Office 365, Outlook.com and Hotmail. I have tried other inbox zero apps but I’ve felt like it’s a waste of time for me to go through all my emails weeding out the junk. I have used Gmail options before but it still seemed like I was getting a lot of emails that were not a priority first. My time is valuable since I’m running multiple projects, what I focus on needs to be what moves me along to the next step in line.

What I Like

I’ve been a Gmail user for a long time and Timyo made it very easy to make the switch. I just clicked to connect my Gmail account and I was ready to input some data to make the product work for me. I like the user interface because it has a clean and spare design, making it simple to locate what you need at a glance. I am able to set clear guidelines in the email set-up, how to direct interlocutors in their tasks for me and what time they should do so. This is by far the best way to stay organized and on top of important information that comes first in your inbox.

What I like about this is that I can manage emails that are important to me by time. I don’t feel like I need to check my email every time my phone pings. I simply select the emails that matter to me and assign a date. This ensures that those emails are the only ones that I get a notification on, so I’m not bombarded by notifications. I like the Agenda View, this lets me stay organized on one screen so I’m not leaving my inbox trying to create new folders or settings. I also get reminders on pending replies, so I never forget to respond to someone.

I also like the to-do list and email all on one screen. I know that Gmail has the Tasks window. Usually I’m accessing my email on my phone and that Tasks list isn’t visible on mobile devices.

Room for Improvement

Timyo has been helpful but there are some things I would love to see in the next iteration: I’d get more use out of it if I were able to support multiple Gmail accounts, plus I’d find it easier if tags were customizable. Push notifications are slow to respond. There is also the matter of the email signature, the Timyo information is always visible. I’d like a way to delete it but I can live with it in exchange for what the app has been able to do for me. Yahoo accounts won’t work well with this app, just keep that in mind.

I had to be invited to use this app so I’m under the impression that this product is still in Beta, therefore I’m looking forward to some improvements from here on out. My wish list is pretty basic. The notifications should be more instantaneous and better integration for the calendar.
